How Cosmic Dust Reveals the Secrets of the Universe
Every year, roughly 10 particles of space dust land on each square meter of Earth’s surface. Matthew Genge, a planetary scientist at Imperial College London, specializes in these alien dust grains, known as micrometeorites. They float here from space rocks hundreds of millions of miles away, bearing tiny messages about the mysteries of our solar system.

What is Cosmic Dust?
Cosmic dust is the detritus of dying stars, a deceptively esoteric substance which pervades the entirety of the known universe. While dust is often made of simple elements, the effect it has on our telescopes, spectrometers, our very understanding of the universe, is quite potent. Today we'll be discussing cosmic dust's history and how it continues to confound experimental physics. From mirroring nearby stars to scrambling cosmological distances, dust is as formidable to new discoveries as it is essential to our very way of life.
Our connection to cosmic dust is described in the immortal words of Carl Sagan: “The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.”

Cosmic Dust - Searching for the origins of life: #RAZOR
Just outside Oxford is an extraordinary machine, Diamond Light Source - the UK’s synchrotron. In search of heavenly wonders, just fly to reach them @Theoneready
Once upon a cosmic epoch, in a vast expanse of celestial wonder, there existed a planet called earth. was nestled within the Milky Way Galaxy, a mere speck in the grand tapestry of the cosmos. Its skies were painted with hues of cerulean and lavender, and its oceans whispered secrets to the winds.
Habitants marveled at the night sky, their eyes tracing constellations that told stories of ancient gods and mythical creatures. They wondered if other planets, like distant kin, shared similar skies. And so, they set forth on a cosmic quest.
Their spacecraft, the Stellar Voyager, pierced the veil of Veridian’s atmosphere and soared toward the heavens. As they journeyed beyond the moon’s embrace, the familiar constellations faded, replaced by unfamiliar patterns. The Milky Way stretched like a ...

The Milky Way stretched like a cosmic river, connecting distant realms.
The crew encountered a gas giant named Astron, its swirling storms resembling abstract art painted by celestial brushes. Astron’s rings shimmered like iridescent ribbons, and its moons danced in harmonious orbits. The crew wondered: Could earth’s sky ever be so enchanting?
Next, they approached Nebula Prime, a stellar nursery where newborn stars ignited from cosmic dust. Nebula Prime’s colors defied imagination—neon pinks, electric blues, and molten gold. The crew pondered: Could Veridian’s sunsets ever rival this celestial spectacle?
As the Stellar Voyager ventured farther, they encountered Exoplanet Zephyr, a world cloaked in perpetual twilight. Its skies bore hues of amethyst and indigo, and its flora absorbed starlight for sustenance. The crew mused: Could our plants thrive under such alien skies?
Finally, they reached Quasar Nexus, a place of cosmic chaos. Here, supermassive black holes devoured entire star systems, their gravitational maws hungry for celestial matter. Quasar Nexus was the heart of darkness, where light itself surrendered. The crew shuddered: Could the people ever face such cosmic wrath?
Returning home, the crew gazed at earth sky anew. The familiar constellations seemed brighter, and the moon whispered secrets they now understood. They realized that every planet, every star, and every sky had its unique tale—a cosmic symphony composed across eons.
And so, now inhabitants embraced their own celestial drama. They reveled in sunrises that painted the horizon with hues borrowed from Nebula Prime. They danced under moonlit nights reminiscent of Exoplanet Zephyr. And when storms brewed, they remembered the tempests of Astron.
earth sky was not like other planets—it was own, a canvas of wonder and mystery. And as they looked up, they whispered to the stars, “We are but stardust dreaming of infinity.”
And so, the universe listened, weaving their story into the cosmic fabric, where our sky became a legend among the stars
